AmanthiHarris-1 (2).jpg

Amanthi Harris was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka and later moved to live in London. She currently lives in the mountains of southern Spain. She studied Chemistry then Law at Bristol University, and Fine Art at Central St Martins. Her novella LANTERN EVENING won the Gatehouse Press New Fictions Prize 2016 and was published by Gatehouse Press. Her novel BEAUTIFUL PLACE is published by Salt Publishing in the UK and Pan MacMillan India in South Asia. Her short stories have been published and broadcast on BBC Radio 4. Her story RED SARI is published in the textbook Context 1 and taught in schools in Sweden. Her story IN THE MOUNTAINS is published in BEST BRITISH SHORT STORIES 2020.

We asked Amanthi what she'll be looking for in the winning entries:

'What I am drawn to in a story is the voice, the author calling me over to enter the cave, the nest, the forest, to surrender to the paths they will lead me on. For me a story must have a need to be told, something urgent in its twists and folds, a certain kind of truth passed on.'

10% of all funds from this competition will be split between these two fabulous mental health charities.

The Scars Foundation
